Social Workers Samos

Description

In the summer of 2021, Eurorelief started serving the residents in the new Closed Controlled Access Center (CCAC) on the Greek island of Samos. We exist to build a culture inside the camp and create environments where residents can feel safe and be seen, heard, and valued. We incorporate love and hope by being present with the community and listening to residents through conversations over tea and coffee and creating positive experiences through activities such as sports, education (informal), games, arts, and handcrafting.

We are looking for a team player with a social work background and leadership skills to join our growing team to develop new activities, improve our current projects, and shape the small and young community of international volunteers on the island. Applicants should be passionate about investing in communities, both inside the CCAC with the residents and outside with the team of volunteers.

Requirements

  • Ability to be emotionally stable and foster emotional intelligence

  • Flexible and able to adapt to change

  • Leadership skills and experience while willing to take initiative

  • Strong team player

  • Intercultural experience is a plus

  • Willingness to serve in other capacities and roles

  • Identification with the Christian values of Eurorelief

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate their own unique skill sets in activities

  • Maintain a professional attitude and relationships

  • Educate volunteers with social work skills, including how to be trauma-informed and emotionally present

  • Fostering environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued

  • Other educational activities, as the need arises

As with all Eurorelief roles, this is a volunteer position: applicants must be self-funded and should have a network of friends and supporters at their "home-base". The first 3 months serve as a probationary period, after which we expect you to take a break from the work for at least a week. If you plan to come for a year or more, you should plan to take a break of about one month after every three months served, or 4 weeks within a sixteen-week-period.

Interested? You can apply to volunteer and, in the comments section, mention what role you are interested in, or you can send an application email to info@eurorelief.net

Eurorelief was founded in 2005 and deployed to Kalamata, Greece in response to deadly earthquakes. Eurorelief later took up work on the island of Lesvos in 2015 as one of the NGOs serving within Moria Hotspot. We continue to fulfill key roles in Mavrovouni Registration and Identification Center (RIC), the new temporary camp on the island of Lesvos. In collaboration with camp management and other actors on the island, we provide basic non-food items, oversee shelter allocation, are involved in maintenance and building projects as well as education and recreational activities. Since summer 2021, we are also present in RIC Zervou on the island of Samos. For more info, go to  Our Work.
